| ECOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF DSF STRUCTURES

|
Material Benefits
DSF sections are very light in comparison with traditional construction methods
Typically 5% of the weight of traditional masonry or 20% of timber framed buildings.
This has the great advantage of transport savings both in terms of number of deliveries and size of delivery vehicles enabling projects to be built anywhere that a ½ tonne pick up truck can reach.
Most lightweight steel is now made from recycled material using state of the art production facilities, typically a steel framed 3 bed house can be built from 3 or 4 recycled family saloon cars whereas a timber framed house of similar size would require in excess of ¼ of an acre of mature woodland (harvestable once every 15-20 years).
At the end of a buildings design life the steel can be recycled almost indefinitely or the complete building can be dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere.
Galvanised Steel is corrosion proof with a minimum design life of 60 years, it is insect/vermin proof, will not ignite or burn and does not warp with time, Furthermore it requires no painting or maintenance, no pesticides and no chemical preservatives.
At the end of a buildings design life the landfill requirements of a typical timber frame building are in excess of 1.4mcube, for a steel framed building this figure is less than 0.1mcube. |
Construction Benefits
The computer controlled design process ensures that DSF buildings are produced to engineering tolerances which minimizes wastage of materials and enables semi skilled labour to erect structures very rapidly, making the system ideal for mass or emergency housing.
The lightweight nature of Dynamic Steel Framed Structures means that foundations are considerably reduced both in terms of excavation and mass concrete requirement once again saving time, materials, environmental damage and costs.
Living in Dynamic Steel Framed Structures
DSF structures are far more storm and earthquake resistant than conventional buildings and can be designed to withstand winds in excess of 150mph/240kph and to be earthquake resistant up to 8.5 on the Richter scale. Also due to the inherent earthing characteristics of steel they are far less likely to suffer damage in a lightning strike.
There are no glues, chemical preservatives or pesticides used in the construction process, thus air quality is much improved for the inhabitants. |
